The Swimming Pool

Created by Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich, The Swimming Pool (2004) at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan, plays with perception and asks how easily our sense of reality can be fooled.

The installation creates an illusion of people being underwater, but it is actually a room beneath a 10 cm (4 in) layer of water held by a sheet of thick glass. Visitors can enter the "pool room" below the water and glass, where they appear to those above as if they are fully submerged.
